Our Mission:

The T1D Oral Health Foundation is committed to ensuring that every child diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes receives the guidance, education, and support they need to protect their oral health. We aim to make oral health a recognized and essential part of diabetes care from the very beginning.

  • Educate at Diagnosis
Ensure every child and family receives clear, accessible information about the oral health implications of Type 1 Diabetes—starting at the doctor’s office or hospital. We are developing materials that help families understand what to expect and how to protect their child’s smile from the beginning.

  • Promote Regular Dental Care
Encourage families to establish early and consistent relationships with dental professionals. We guide families on what to look for in a provider and recommend preventive tools—such as fluoride toothpaste and soft-bristled toothbrushes—to support daily care at home.

  • Build Awareness Among Providers and the Public
Increase understanding of the T1D-oral health connection among healthcare providers, schools, and community organizations to encourage early intervention and cohesive care.

  • Advocate for Systemic Change
Work with local and state dental societies to raise awareness of this overlooked issue, promote the inclusion of oral health education in T1D care settings, and encourage professional training that addresses the unique needs of this population.

  • Work Toward Financial Support
As the foundation grows, we aspire to develop a fund that can assist families facing financial barriers to accessing dental care—helping to cover the cost of preventive and essential treatments in the future.
